Egan is the gruff police chief whose wife Hyer wants him to quit. He stands up for his duty when the shooting starts. Neat ironic ending caps a clever thriller that gains from filming in real locations. The gang don't hold back when violence is needed with Egan the only one to stand up to them, in a parallel to “High Noon”. The plan seems to be brilliant and foolproof until that reveal at the end.
